The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) and Washington Adventist Hospital (WAH), which has plans to relocate to White Oak, Md., near the FDA campus, announced last week that they have entered into an agreement to collaborate on drug evaluation and research.

Children came away from a one-week program held at Mountain View Conference’s Braxton church in Gassaway, W.Va., excited about BLT. No not that kind of BLT, but the three-part Bible Lifestyle for Today (BLT) program that combined songs and dramatized audio Bible stories, information about anatomy and a hands-on cooking class.

Today at the Columbia Union Conference Executive Committee meeting, the presidents of the union’s two healthcare systems made a donation that will make a dramatic difference in the lives of hundreds, possibly thousands of visually impaired people in India.

The Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md., has become the first hospital in Montgomery County to perform a da Vinci robotic single-site operation. This comes less than a year after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved single-site instruments for the da Vinci robotic surgical system last December.

Adventist Health Study-2 (AHS-2) researchers visited several camp meetings around the Columbia Union Conference. Many of 96,000 study members of AHS-2 are church members in the Columbia Union.

Kettering Adventist HealthCare (KAHC) in Kettering, Ohio, and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati recently announced a joint effort in caring for high-risk newborns. Under their new collaboration, the Cincinnati hospital will provide neonatal and neonatal subspecialty coverage to KAHC’s new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Kettering Medical Center.

Pennsylvania Conference’s Adventist WholeHealth Network (AWHN) leaders served an integral role in the yearlong planning and preparation for the recent Central Pennsylvania Parish Nursing Conference held in Landisville. More than 150 interfaith parish nurses and sponsors from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey attended. “Parish Nursing and Health Ministries: Looking to the Future” was the conference’s theme. It featured keynote speaker Verna B. Carson, PhD, and four breakout workshops. The Pennsylvania Conference and AWHN were two of the event sponsors, and the conference’s book and health food store and AWHN set up booths.

A leading economist is predicting that the proposed relocation of the Washington Adventist Hospital to White Oak, Md. and its continued use of the hospital’s nearby Takoma Park, Md. campus, will be a catalyst for helping the region meet its full economic potential.
