Dale Wright Memorial Church Commemorates 50th Anniversary

By Marci Wright

Members of Allegheny West Conference’s Dale Wright Memorial church in Germantown, Ohio, recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of their current building. Today’s members commemorated the faithfulness of the church’s original founders during a special weekend.

The weekend started with a Friday night vespers when Clifford M. Wright from the Lakewood (Ohio) church presented a message titled “We Can’t Come Down.” On Sabbath morning, Stephen E. Brooks, current pastor, taught Sabbath School and Bryant C. Taylor, a former pastor, presented the mid-day sermon.

During the special day, members recalled the church’s beginnings—when its first members met in homes during bad weather and under a large tree in good weather. They soon purchased a tavern, which they converted into the Berea church and officially organized in 1948. They broke ground on the current site in 1959, and the church was later named in memory of Dale Wright, the church’s first elected elder.

The weekend concluded when more than 100 people converged for dinner and a concert.
