Potomac Youth Shower Families With Food, Clothes

Story by Taashi Rowe

There’s an active Spanish-speaking youth group in the Potomac Conference called Movimiento Joven Adventista (MJA). Just before Thanksgiving, they showered love and care upon needy families in Takoma Park, Md. As part of their annual outreach to this community, MJA coordinated a five-hour program that included clothing and food giveaways, music, prayer, free health screenings, immigration help and, for the first time, a kids program. The young people collect food and clothes from churches around the conference and solicit donations from local businesses.

They assisted 178 families and gave away 150 bags of groceries in their Lluvias de Bendiciones (Showers of Blessings) program. "Our young people, including Pathfinders, really plan and coordinate this project," says Sylvia Urrutia, a member of the Wheaton (Md.) Spanish church. "We really look forward to being a part of this and helping out!"
