Two teachers recently received the Columbia Union Conference Office of Education Outstanding Educator Award: Carla Thrower, the principal of Potomac Conference’s Takoma Academy in Takoma Park, Md.; and Vail Bigelow Mason, 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Chesapeake Conference’s Mt. Aetna Adventist School in Hagerstown, Md.

This weekend Potomac Conference’s Sligo church in Takoma Park, Md., is hosting their Homecoming 2016 Weekend featuring Ron Halvorsen Jr., as the Sabbath morning speaker and Point of Grace as the featured musicians.

As U.S. and Cuba relations begin to thaw, Columbia Union members seek new opportunities to share the love of Christ with a  people hungry for hope.

More than a 1,000 Seventh-day Adventists gathered in Washington, D.C., last weekend to pray, mourn and acknowledge the killings of two black American men and five Dallas police officers. 

Bob Mitchell, Potomac Conference Adventist Community Services and Disaster Relief coordinator released this statement today:

Dale Twomley recently presided over the final Shenandoah Valley Academy graduation of his notable 55-year career. Graduate Andrew Moore introduced Twomley as commencement speaker, explaining “Dr. Twomley has been a teacher, treasurer, business manager, principal, CEO, university department chair and business school dean. …there is no place he has made more of a difference than here at Shenandoah Valley Academy (SVA).”

Memorial Services have been set for Beth Michaels, editor of the Columbia Union Visitor.

The following is a statement released by the Potomac Conference.

Potomac Conference Team:

On our descent down Mount Rainier, we made our way around the Wilson Glacier and crisscrossed the Nisqually Glacier, trying to avoid the many open crevasses, however, came to a crevasse we could not go around. We located a snow bridge to traverse over. After testing the bridge, we decided it was safe to cross. When it was my turn to go over, the snow bridge collapsed. I fell 14 feet and became wedged in the crevasse, upside down.
