As the COVID-19 outbreak quickly emerged, the Chesapeake Adventist Community Services (ACS) Department mobilized trained volunteers and partnered with the American Red Cross, state organizations and local churches to provide crisis care to communities across the Chesapeake territory. 

Each Sabbath since social distancing due to the coronavirus, Kandace Zollman has put her talents to work by “chalking” God’s love on her driveway.  

Sarah Porter and other volunteers brainstormed ways to continue serving and decided on conducting virtual visits. Now, three or more times a week, Swiffer and other pet volunteers join Zoom calls to connect with workers at nurse stations.

"The student speakers and the campus ministries department agreed that Week of Prayer was more important now than ever before," says Mandy Corea, campus ministries director for Highland View Academy.

A local church, union, and North American Division recently partnered together to show their appreciation for the dedicated service of local front-line healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the auspices of the National Institute for STEM Education (NISE), affiliated with Rice University (Texas), Highland View Academy (HVA) was recently recognized for being a STEM-certified school.

The word intentional means that an action is taken on purpose. Interestingly, when it comes to the most important things in life, it often seems that few people treat them with an intentional mindset.

“Historically, it is in crisis when the church has the most significant opportunity to live out its full mission of being the hands and feet of Jesus,” wrote Chad Stuart, senior pastor of Chesapeake Conference’s Spencerville church in Silver Spring, Md.
