Kylynda Bauer graduated as president and valedictorian of Highland View Academy (Hagerstown, Md) Class of 2009. As a microbiologist, she now conducts cutting-edge research in the microbiome field. In this TEDx Talk, Bauer shares research that observes the impact of malnutrition and microbes on the gut-brain axis.
Bauer is a National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Vanier Canada Graduate Scholar and Microbiology and Immunology doctoral candidate at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Bauer currently explores the impact of malnutrition and microbes on the gut-brain axis in the Finlay Lab at the Michael Smith Laboratories (British Columbia). She also works as a program reporter for the Canadian Institute For Advanced Research (CIFAR) Humans and the Microbiome Program and blogs about research and graduate life.
