D.C. Ghanaian Young Adults Get Baptized, Marry Church Sweethearts

Story by Margaret Attey

Young adults from Potomac Conference’s Washington-Ghanaian church in Beltsville, Md., created a stir recently when three of them got baptized and three others married church sweethearts they had met through collaborations between the area’s two other Ghanaian churches: Woodbridge Ghanaian in Woodbridge, Va., and First Northern Virginia Ghanaian (NOVA) in Alexandria, Va.

The baptisms took place in the Washington-Ghanaian church after a month-long revival. After careful Bible studies, college freshman Abena Frempong, Lawrence O’Connor Nsafoah, and college sophomore Justina Ahenkora (all pictured) became full-grown members of the Washington-Ghanaian church. Their baptism raised the church’s membership into the second hundred.

The recent weddings realistically demonstrate the church’s mission: “To develop a family focused discipleship community to share the gospel within the Washington Metro area.” According to church leaders, the novelty of the marriages caused church members, family and friends from all three churches, from home and abroad, to converge enmasse and support the couples.
