Hagerstown Church Members Pray for Review and Herald’s Future
Story by V. Michelle Bernard
Seventh-day Adventist Church members from the Hagerstown, Md., area are meeting Thursday to pray for the future of the nearby Review and Herald Publishing Association. They will participate in a special prayer meeting June 5, at 7 p.m., at Chesapeake Conference’s Williamsport (Md.) church located at 16421 Lappans Road.
On May 12, the boards of the Review and Herald and the Pacific Press Publishing Association (Idaho) approved and recommended a restructuring plan that would greatly impact the Adventist community in Hagerstown.
The proposed plan would cease Review and Herald operations at its current location in Hagerstown. Its corporate office location would then be transferred to the church’s world headquarters in Silver Spring, where it will oversee the publishing of publications already being published by the General Conference headquarters such asThe Adventist Review, Adventist World, Ministry, The Journal of Adventist Education and others. The Review and Herald would also publish other products as determined by the General Conference.
The restructured Review and Herald would require minimal staffing, leaving many of the Hagerstown employees without jobs. (Read more about the proposal here: http://www.columbiaunionvisitor.com/publishinghouses/).
The boards of the Review and Herald and Pacific Press have set a final vote for June 17.
