Women Clergy Hold First Retreat

The Allegheny East Conference (AEC) Women’s Ministries Department recently invited women clergy for a three-day getaway at The Inn at Leola Village (Pa.).

The retreat offered them a chance to rest, reconnect and be renewed through fellowship, worship and celebrations—including a birthday, upcoming nuptials and a baby arrival.

On Sunday evening, participants gathered at a local restaurant, setting the tone for meaningful connection.

“It was great to connect, as we usually only get to do so at professional functions like workers’ meetings, area meetings, camp meetings and the like,” says Novella Smith, pastor of the Beacon Light church in Annapolis, Md.

On Tuesday, the retreat concluded with an inspiring live theatrical experience at Sight & Sound® Theatres in Lancaster, Pa.

“My key takeaway was the importance of clergy sisterhood. I was able to build relationships with women who share the same title as mine and understand the joys and challenges of pastoral ministry,” says Darnisha Thomas, associate pastor of the Dupont Park church in Washington, D.C.

Marleena Debrough, AEC Women’s Ministries director and event organizer, adds, “It was an exciting time being together in fun and fellowship, and sharing thoughts and experiences with other clergy.”
