Pennsylvania Conference Members Pray in One Accord
Story by Lillian Torres
God has promised that powerful things happen when His people come together to pray: “If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in Heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:19–20, KJV).
Ellen White reminds us, “The promise is made on condition that the united prayers of the church are offered, and in answer to these prayers there may be expected a power greater than that which comes in answer to private prayer. The power given will be proportionate to the unity of the members and their love for God and for one another” (Manuscript Releases, vol. 9, p. 303).
On Sabbath, August 17, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., some 2,600 church members from across Pennsylvania gathered to pray in one accord at nine upper room locations. Trusting God to powerfully pour out His Spirit like He did on the disciples, they worshipped, prayed and then spent the afternoon connecting with and praying for people in these nine communities.
About 1800 people hit the streets in the communities surrounding our nine D-Day Upper Room sites. A mom was surrounded by people who prayed for her son battling cancer. A man hurting from a recent breakup with his girlfriend received hugs and prayers. Several who shared that they once attended church but no longer did, were invited back. They shared their contact information and will be contacted by local pastors. One woman was crying as she answered the door; she shared how every time she's hurting, God sends someone to her--like the team at her door offering to pray.
