After months of meetings, committee work, research and visioning by Ohio Conference staff, another chapter of Mount Vernon Academy’s history is coming to a close.

The Assets

Last fall Visitor staff and Celeste Ryan Blyden presented awards of excellence to communication directors in the Columbia Union. This week as awardee who was unable to attend received her award.

After a lengthy search for a new assistant treasurer, the Ohio Conference hired Roy Simpson. Simpson, son of a pastor, lived in five different countries while growing up in Central America.

Nearly one year since Ohio Conference leaders learned of the dire financial situation facing their beloved Mount Vernon Academy in Mount Vernon, Ohio Conference constituents voted to ratify the recommendations put forth by the Mount Vernon Academy Board of Trustees and Ohio Conference Executive Committee to authorize the sale of assets of the Mount Vernon Academy Corporation.

Over the past few years, I’ve had a few opportunities to participate in committees tasked with hatching ideas that breathe new life into our education system in North America. Invariably the conversation turns to the pastor/school relationship.
