Willingboro Church Hosts Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” In observance of the recent MLK Day, New Jersey Conference’s Willingboro church hosted its annual MLK Day of Service.

This year, church members collaborated with The Beloved Project of NJ, a local nonprofit that provides essential personal items to the unhoused, and assembled gift bags (including uplifting materials and homemade cards) to distribute, and hosted a Veterans Luncheon and tribute program to honor local veterans.

Beulah Williams, the church’s Personal Ministries director, says, “It is our desire to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. He met the needs of the community of wherever He went. His desire was to make a positive difference in the lives of everyone He met. Then bid them, ‘Follow me.’ Our determination is to walk as Jesus walked. Dr. King was inspired by Christ’s example and lived a life of service. We honor his memory by doing likewise."

Keynote speaker Samantha Whitfield, Willingboro’s Deputy Mayor, expressed her appreciation to the country’s soldiers and to the event organizers. “It was a wonderful event, and just thank you to those two organizations for continuing to serve Willingboro on a consistent basis,” she says. “It does not go unnoticed, and thank you for continued work and support not only [to] the veterans,  but to serve Willingboro Township as a whole.”
