Connecting Columbia Union Seventh-day Adventists

Thank Your Principal This Month

October is National Principals Month—a time to remember to thank our principals for the work they do in leading our Seventh-day Adventist schools.

“When principals are supported, the entire school community benefits,” says Ruth Nino, associate director for elementary education at the Columbia Union Conference. “The support to a principal helps them to make informed decisions that promotes the school’s vision. Consequently, the principal can better mentor teachers to improve student outcomes.”

She also notes, “When parents and church community members support the day-to-day education ministry, it can help ensure continuity and stability for the principal and the school program. The encouragement, presence and availability as a human resource gives a principal timely support to help avoid burnout.”

Thank you, Columbia Union principals, for your dedication to the ministry of education. May your Spirit-filled leadership guide you daily as you minister to our young people! We thank you!

Nino shares the following ideas on how students, parents, teachers and church members can support their local principals:

  • Participate and organize school events, as needed
  • Volunteer, not only your time, but skills to assist with school activities and initiatives
  • Join your Home and School Association to help provide timely feedback and implement positive change
  • Donate useful items, books or supplies to the school or classrooms!
  • Advocate for our schools! A good word goes a long way! Share positive experiences with those around you. You never know if a potential future student is in the midst!
  • Spread positivity, promote empathy and communicate. Providing behind-the-scenes support can have a great affect!
  • Share a favorite Bible verse or word of encouragement
  • Pray with and for your principal!
