Summer Camps Get a Reboot in New Jersey
Story by New Jersey Conference Staff
After a respite, New Jersey Conference’s Youth Ministries staff recently restarted Summer Camp Ministries.
The rebooted version, called FLAG (Fun Learning About God) Camp, is being held at four different church locations in July. The one-week experience includes crafts, recreational sports, daily field trips, worship and inspirational puppet ministry messages. One parent shared that they “enjoy the integration of God in all the activities.”
Carl Rodriguez, director of the conference’s Youth Ministries Department, says that “[summer camp] provides a safe place to belong while providing wholesome Christian recreation and meaningful worship experiences. Also, it gives us the opportunity to meet the [children’s] parents. As the Spirit leads, we encourage the [kids] to join different club ministry options—Adventurers, Pathfinders, Sabbath School, etc.”
FLAG Camp is sponsored by the conference and staffed by a small paid staff and local church volunteers.
Rodriguez says his department’s goal is to host the camp at eight sites next summer.
