Iris Argueta, Children’s Ministries director for the Washington Spanish church in Silver Spring, Md., and Charles Tapp, senior pastor of Sligo church in Takoma Park, Md., are bringing their extensive broadcasting backgrounds to the General Conference Session. Both are anchoring Adventist Newsline, a daily, half-hour television news program, which airs live at 6:30 each evening on the Hope Channel.
Argueta (pictured left), a professional journalist with more than 20 years experience as a Washington area reporter, is also a veteran in the Session broadcasting arena, having served as a reporter in the Toronto (2000) and St. Louis (2005) sessions.
Tapp (pictured right), who stuttered as a boy, prayed to God to be a radio announcer. When the stuttering eventually left him, he got into radio as a student at Oakwood University (Ala.), and though he became focused on pastoring, has remained involved in radio for the last 30 years often broadcasting his sermons.
Adventist Newsline “gives the world church an opportunity to see what is happening in Atlanta, and not just what happens with election but other events going on—the people, the food—it gives them a flavor of the GC Session in Atlanta,” Tapp explained. “It helps them to feel like they are here.”
Argueta, who also serves as a field reporter for the show, added, “The idea is for people to see it as their main source of information to what’s happening at the Session. “Folks can’t come to this place from all over the world for financial reasons.”
Though produced in English, the show will be translated into Portuguese and Spanish.
