Grace Tabernacle Honors Black History Month
Story by LaTasha Hewitt
During the entire month of February, the Grace Tabernacle church in Norristown, Pa., celebrated Black history with intention—honoring not only the victories but also acknowledging the deep struggles endured across the African diaspora.
This year’s theme, “Journey to Freedom: Celebrating Our Legacy,” highlighted the experiences of African Americans in the United States and the parallel trials faced by brothers and sisters in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Kenya.
“A lot of the information shared during the spotlights I would have never known,” shares Frank Legette, Grace Tabernacle’s pastor.
Trevor Kinlock, Allegheny East Conference (AEC) president, was the guest speaker for the Jamaican emphasis Sabbath. “The congregation expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Kinlock’s participation and the powerful message he delivered,” shares Shaleen Manning Williams, Grace Tabernacle’s Communication director.
During the service, the church honored a pillar of the Norristown community—Hughton Kelsey, a retired Pennsylvania state trooper. He was recognized for his years of service and the lasting impact of his legacy.
