Potomac Conference Appoints Amilcar Gröschel, Jr. as Vice President for Administration

Story by Debra Anderson

In January, the Potomac Conference Executive Committee voted Amilcar “AJ” Gröschel, Jr., to serve as vice president for Administration.

Charles A. Tapp, conference president, expressed his utmost confidence in the appointment of Gröschel. He “brings a rare combination of pastoral heart, academic depth and executive leadership. His integrity, global experience in pastoral ministry, academia, law and his steady wisdom have positioned him well to guide the administrative life of our conference. We are grateful for God’s leading in this appointment.”

Gröschel fills the vacancy left by José L. Vázquez, who is now serving as vice president for Ministries Development at the Columbia Union Conference.

An ordained pastor, professor, attorney and administrator, Gröschel brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in educational, legal and church settings in both Brazil and the United States. Since 2019, he has served the Potomac Conference as a pastor, most recently at the Waynesboro (Va.) church, while also teaching philosophy, theology and law at Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Md..

Gröschel says, “It’s always the highest calling and greatest privilege to serve God and His most beloved children. It’s also a deeply humbling challenge. …  Please make plans to include me and my family in your daily prayers for discerning wisdom and strength, asking our Savior to lead out as we join together in His mission, expanding the realities of His kingdom, until His soon return!”
