WGTS 91.9 Listeners Give Generously to Food Drives

WGTS listeners recently gave generously to three food collection events, just at a critical time when area food pantries were struggling to meet the increased demand due to a decrease in food benefits.

“We are here to be the hands and heart of Jesus and help families in the communities we serve,” says morning show host Jerry Woods. “And our listeners have given generously again through this Hands and Heart project, helping others and bringing hope and support with much-needed food.”

The WGTS team headed out on Oct. 30 and 31 and received donations from listeners, totaling more than 5,000 pounds of food for “Streetlight Community Outreach Ministries” in Woodbridge, Va. The team at Streetlight has already started distributing that food to people in the city.

The food drive continued Nov. 4 as WGTS went to La Plata, Md., where listeners could drive up and drop off their food at the WGTS box truck in the circle drive in front of town hall. In just five hours, listeners gave another 2,000 pounds of food.

WGTS lead content specialist Claude Jennings, who assisted at each of the food collection sites, says, “It shows the power of community, the gospel and that good is still at work.”

WGTS is continuing to strategize on involving listeners in ongoing events to help feed the hungry in the Washington, D.C., area.
