Mt. Olivet Reopens Building After Six Years

Story by LaTasha Hewitt

After six years of worshipping online and occasionally at a rented space, the Mt. Olivet church in Camden, N.J., recently opened its church doors for worship in its newly renovated building. Pandemic-necessitated closure and subsequent building repair prevented them from meeting in their sanctuary, but through perseverance and dedication, they were able to host their grand reopening. Attendees came together to dedicate the new facility and give thanks for God’s leading.

The celebration began with a baptismal service, symbolizing both new beginnings and spiritual growth. The seven individuals baptized were part of the church’s compassion project evangelistic series held in 2025. The program featured a “Welcome Home” presentation that reflected on the six-year journey leading to the grand reopening, followed by a call to worship and an uplifting season of praise and worship.

Bruce and Celia Archie welcomed members and visitors, while several distinguished guests shared congratulatory remarks and words of encouragement, including Gary Wimbish, Allegheny East Conference (AEC) vice president for administration; Jimmy Ferguson, Bay Area leader; and Frank Legette and Colby Matlock, former Mt. Olivet pastors.

LaTasha Hewitt, AEC communication director, recognized members of Mt. Olivet’s communication and media team for their dedication to keeping the church connected virtually while waiting for the physical church to reopen. Robert Best, pastor, also recognized several ministry leaders who supported the vision from its inception to completion.

After Best’s sermon and appeal, several attendees took a stand for Bible studies, baptism or prayer.
