Ethnan Temple Honors 90-Year-Old Pillars of Faith

Story by Keisha Bone

The Ethnan Temple church in Wilkinsburg, Pa., recently had the distinct honor and privilege of celebrating five of its most cherished and faithful members: five women who have lived long and impactful lives, reaching the incredible milestone of 90 years of age or older. Their faith, resilience and devotion to God and His work continue to inspire and strengthen the congregation.

The special service was a moment of celebration, reflection and gratitude as the church honored Geneva Mosby, Janet Harvey and Willie May Fluker, three of the five remarkable women who were present at the service. Though Louise Morant and Marie Heard—the oldest living member of Ethnan Temple at the age of 101—were unable to attend, they, too, were recognized for their significant contributions to the church and their unwavering commitment to God’s service.

In a heartfelt tribute, Jerome M. Hurst, Ethnan Temple pastor, read a moving statement, acknowledging the legacy of the five women and the impact they have had on the church and community. He stated, “Today, we honor them, not just for their years, but for their unyielding faith, their prayerful support and their leadership in the body of Christ. They are living testimonies of God’s faithfulness.”

These women, who have been witnesses to nearly a century of history, are more than just longtime members of the church; they are pillars of faith whose lives serve as a testament to the power of perseverance, prayer and trust in God, say church members. Their presence and continued participation in church activities embody the strength and grace of the biblical women who have gone before them: the faith of Sarah, the leadership of Deborah, the devotion of Hannah and the perseverance of Anna.

Psalm 92:14 reads, “They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green” (NIV). These words ring true as the church reflects on the lives of these women. Despite their years, they continue to bear fruit in their walk with God, their love for the church and their impact on everyone in whom they encounter.

Hurst closed the tribute by saying, “Your faith has paved the way for us. We thank God for you, and we pray that your days continue to be filled with joy, peace and love.”
