Again this year, Washington Adventist Hospital (WAH) in Takoma Park, Md., provided free health screenings and wellness education as a sponsor of Telemundo Washington’s sixth annual “Fiesta de las Madres” event. The event takes place each year in downtown Silver Spring.
The outdoor expo celebrates Hispanic mothers and women while helping connect families to much needed community resources. Nearly 1,000 festival attendees engaged with staff at WAH’s tent, where they provided free health information and had experts in the areas of maternal and child health and breast cancer and breast health on hand to answer questions. By day’s end, WAH and other Adventist HealthCare volunteers provided a total of 150 free health screenings to attendees, including body composition, waist-to-hip ratio and a grip strength test.
