Boulevard Church Hosts Community Events
Story by Liz Bailey
Recently, the Boulevard church in Charleston, W.Va., held two events. The first event was a two-day health series called, “Awaken and Thrive.” Jeremy Garlock, pastor of Boulevard, was the emcee for the event, while local members presented topics on health in a gospel-centric manner.
On the first night, participants learned how to create a healthful, great-tasting breakfast. On the second night, attendees learned how to use natural remedies for common ailments. At the end of the health series, Garlock invited all participants, including the 15 nonmener visitors, to attend the second event, an evangelistic series titled, "Becoming the Best You."
Through the lens of mental health, Garlock presented the biblical principles of salvation in Jesus, the Sabbath, the state of the dead, the return of Jesus and baptism, along with an invitation to join the church. This second event was conducted as if it were a classroom, with adults working on crafts, planting seeds and walking away with gifts and strategies designed to help with mental health ant point them to their Creator.
Twelve nonmember visitors attended this event. Eight are currently engaged in Bible studies, with two already having committed to baptism.
