Gabriel Madrid Elected Potomac Conference Vice President for Education

Story by Potomac Conference Staff

The Potomac Conference Executive Committee elected Gabriel Madrid on July 29 to serve as the new Vice President for Education. He succeeds Steve Laing, who accepted a position as associate director for secondary education at the Columbia Union Conference.

Prior to his election, Madrid served in the conference as the associate superintendent for education, where he provided professional development in the areas of strategic planning, communication, leadership, and instruction to over 20 school administrators and 200 employees.

Madrid brings over 22 years in education experience, with 12 years of leadership experience in roles such as director of Innovation, head principal, head of school and associate superintendent.

At North Tampa Christian Academy (Flordia), Madrid served as director of Innovation, founding an Innovation Lab and integrating design thinking and real-world partnerships into a K–12 curriculum. As head principal at Oakwood Adventist Academy (Ala.), he spearheaded facility expansions, led the accreditation process, established career-path certificate programs, and achieved the most significant enrollment growth in nearly two decades.

Madrid has a passion for empowering students and staff to explore creativity and reach their full potential. He says, “At the Potomac Conference, we envision a future where every student thrives spiritually, academically and emotionally in Christ-centered communities of learning. Our goal is to foster student-centered environments, deepen stakeholder engagement, and become a model of Adventist holistic educational excellence that inspires lifelong discipleship and purpose-driven living.”

The Potomac Conference warmly welcomes Gabriel Madrid into his new leadership role, confident that his experience and vision will strengthen the conference’s mission of Christ-centered education.
