WGTS Listeners Donate Thousands of Diapers to Pregnancy Centers
Story by WGTS staff
WGTS 91.9 just finished collecting and distributing over 40,000 diapers and wipes from their campaign “Operation Fill the Diaper Bag,” one of their Hands and Heart initiatives for 2021. From early April through Mother’s Day in May, the WGTS team broadcasted live from Chick-fil-A locations across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. At each stop, listeners donated diapers and wipes. They also picked up station bumper stickers and other WGTS items such as pencils, pens, notepads, and sunscreen.
The diapers and wipes were sent out to the Rockville Women’s Center in Maryland, Salvation Army Harbor Light Center in Washington, D.C., and Assist Pregnancy Center in Virginia.
“We are so thankful! We just finished stacking all of the donations in our supply room,” said Leanna Baumer, executive director of Assist Pregnancy Center. “We truly appreciate the generosity of the WGTS listeners--incredible!”
Promotions director and morning show host Jerry Woods, said, “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than to reach out to moms who are struggling this year. With the cost of everything going up, this was just a small way the WGTS family could take care of the little ones in our community.”
