New Leader Appointed For Good Neighbor House
Story by Frank Perez
The board of the Good Neighbor House (GNH) in Dayton, Ohio, recently announced the appointment of Michelle Collier as executive director.
Collier has been with the agency for the past five years. She was hired as the chief operating officer, but added more responsibilities as the 28-year old operation acquired more programs to help serve the Miami Valley and beyond.
Good Neighbor House serves all areas of their community through their pantry services, dental clinic, multi-programed medical clinic which includes medical care, counseling services and a dispensary. Three times, in the history of this faith-based organization, there has been a push to add more room to help answer the need of our community members. Twice, this was done by relocating.
This time, knowing their current location is in a prime spot for their client base to reach them, Collier helped lead the movement and campaign that is getting close to raising the $1.5 million needed to help cover the costs of the medical wing expansion. The project is targeted to be completed by late April of this year.
“I have felt a bond with this organization, the mission and beliefs here since I came to volunteer several years ago,” says Collier. “I volunteered with another pantry that came to do some service hours here. I immediately felt like I was home to where God had been pointing me. GNH was founded on the principal that serving others should be giving them the best care, the best service and any blessing you might have to share without judging. That’s what Jesus does in His mercy of us. I have watched our programs grow, our staff become enthusiastic about sharing their amazing talents, and Christ, with others! Sometimes you think about what you can bring in to improve a situation and God’s plan is what He will help YOU learn from it.”
Collier and her husband, Jamie, are parents to two teen boys, three large breed dogs and love traveling and entertaining. She is a graduate of DeVry University and Keller School of Management and member of the Ohio Conference’s Stillwater church in Dayton.
