A New Day of Care: Shady Grove Medical Center Opens State-of-the-Art Horizon Tower
Story by Adventist HealthCare Staff
This summer, Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center team members welcomed the first patients into the hospital’s new Horizon Tower. The enhanced emergency and critical care spaces are an investment years in the making and a powerful addition to the system’s modern, community-centered healthcare.
At a ribbon cutting on June 5, hospital leaders, physicians, nurses, community partners and donors helped dedicate the much-anticipated six-story building.
“The Horizon Tower is a promise,” said Dan Cochran, President of Shady Grove Medical Center, at the ceremony. “We will make sure our neighbors have exceptional care, and we will be relentless in our excellence in delivering it as our mission calls us to do -- physically, mentally and spiritually.”
The new tower’s features include:
--A modernized Emergency Department with more spacious treatment rooms and additional dedicated areas for mental health emergencies
--A replacement Intensive Care Unit with a unique outdoor garden for loved ones who need respite
--A relocated Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology Lab, placed closer to the Emergency Department to expedite treatment for heart attacks and strokes
--A rooftop helipad to support rapid transport for critically ill patients
--All private inpatient rooms to enhance dignity, rest and infection control
The building is one of the first hospital spaces in the U.S. designed with insights from COVID-19. Additionally, the light-filled break spaces, larger patient rooms and improved lines of sight are a testament to the voices of many team members who helped shape its design.
Overall, the tower will serve as a platform to expand the hospital’s quality innovations while enhancing patient experience and caregiver well-being.
