The Montebello Community Honors Camp Blue Ridge

Recently, members of the Montebello community in Virginia presented a special gift recognizing Camp Blue Ridge’s (CBR) ongoing commitment to serving the local community.

Each year, CBR hosts two major outreach events designed to move beyond the walls and strengthen community connections. The annual Independence Day celebration welcomes more than 300 guests and features fireworks, free food and activities.

During the 2025 Community Independence Day Celebration last year, resident Jayne Hoffman photographed moments that were later professionally mounted on canvas for display in the foyer of the camp’s new café.

CBR also hosts an annual community Christmas party that draws more than 100 guests and includes a holiday meal, live entertainment and a gift exchange. Camp staff also partnered with Nelson County Social Services Department to collect and distribute gifts for families in need.

A commemorative plaque accompanying the display thanked the camp for helping make Montebello “a better place” and expressed appreciation for “the neighbors we have found, the community we have developed, and the friends we have come to love in Camp Blue Ridge.” The Montebello Volunteer Fire Department coordinated the gift, in partnership with local residents, to honor the strong relationship between the camp and the surrounding community.

“The relationships we have built here mean so much to us, and we cherish every opportunity … to reflect the love of Jesus in meaningful and practical ways,” says Julie Minnick, associate director at CBR.
