Jane Cermak-Faver Retires

Jane Cermak-Faver, associate treasurer at the Columbia Union Conference for the last nine years, retired in July after working for the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 23-and-a-half years. Prior to her role as associate treasurer, she served as the assistant treasurer/comptroller for the Columbia Union Revolving Fund (CURF), an auditor for the General Conference Auditing Service (GCAS) and an accountant at other organizations.

“Jane is an exceptional treasury professional,” says Emmanuel Asiesu, Columbia Union treasurer. “She blended passion, mission and the highest-level [of] competence to perform the treasury functions. She poured all her knowledge and energy into God’s work.”

Cermak-Faver says she appreciated serving alongside co-workers who shared the same beliefs and mission. “I really got a sense that people cared about each other here,” she says, noting she also enjoyed focusing on the details that are important in keeping financial records for the church. “I’ve always been into the details,” she says. 

Prior to her roles in accounting, Cermak-Faver worked as a medical doctor for 12 years. She says that what she learned as a doctor was not lost in her second profession, noting medicine teaches you how to analyze and think, which is important to do in accounting.”

She is looking forward to well-deserved rest, starting piano lessons again, owning a dog and traveling.

Monica Esperante has joined the Columbia Union staff as an assistant treasurer, taking on the tasks Cermak-Faver previously handled. Esperante will oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, prepare financial reports and support the payroll processes, among other tasks.
