Former Mountain View Conference President Passes
Story by V. Michelle Bernard
Kingsley Whitsett, former Mountain View Conference (MVC) president, passed away February 4.
Whitsett retired with more than 40 years of denominational service—many of those in the MVC. In 1986, he started as the conference youth director and pastor of the Buckhannon and Glenville churches in West Virginia, followed by various positions, including conference executive secretary. In 2002, he was elected as conference president. He served in that position until his retirement in 2006.
“Kingsley Whitsett was the Ministerial director when I joined the Mountain View Conference for the first time back in 1987,” says Tim Bailey, MVC president. “He was a very genuine, kind and loving support to me personally. He went on to serve our conference in every possible capacity and finally was elected as conference president. We are grateful for all his services throughout his many years of service in our territory.”
Whitsett also served in the Chesapeake, Potomac, Florida and Missouri conferences. Read more about Whitsett in the “Mountain Viewpoints” newsletter in the May/June 2026 Visitor.
