AYP Brings New Life to Gym at Mt. Aetna Adventist School
Story by Adventist Young Professionals Staff
The gymnasium at Chesapeake Conference’s Mt. Aetna Adventist School in Hagerstown, Md., has a fresh new look, thanks to the financial support and dedicated service of the Adventist Young Professionals’ (AYP) Washington DC Chapter.
Once dark, dusty and marked by years of use, the gym is now bright and clean, covered in fresh white satin paint—a transformation made possible through the generosity and teamwork of AYP.
“Mt. Aetna students are going to be surprised as they return this fall to a completely restored gymnasium that is bright and clean,” says Principal Rod Kerbs. “We are so grateful to Alexa Correia, who led this effort, coordinated volunteers, and [who] cast a vision to do the impossible. We want to thank AYP for making a dream come true by contributing a generous donation that covered the cost of paint and supplies for this big project.”
For Correia, AYP’s Washington DC Chapter coordinator, the project was an opportunity to serve with purpose. “Service is at the heart of who we are,” she shares. “We wanted this project to be a tangible expression of God’s love for the students and staff. Every brush stroke was a reminder that we can make a difference when we show up together for our community.”
The transformation was made possible by the support of Adventist HealthCare, which has served as the Washington DC Chapter sponsor for the past two years. Parents, students and local volunteers also joined the effort, with the DeHaan family of Hadley Farms Bakery providing fresh cinnamon rolls to keep everyone energized.
