DISASTER AND FAMINE RELIEF OFFERING SABBATH IS May 11th

Story by Iris Argueta

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the humanitarian arm of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, stands at the forefront of responding to crises worldwide, delivering life-saving aid to millions affected by natural disasters and emergencies.

In recent months, a wave of emergencies has spread across the globe, causing havoc, and driving countless people into despair. ADRA has been providing humanitarian aid to communities facing tragedies, such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria, Morocco, Afghanistan, and Japan, powerful hurricanes in Mexico, violent cyclones in India, deluges in the Philippines, Brazil, Malawi, and Europe, communities torn apart by violence and forced displacement in Sudan, Venezuela, and the Middle East, arid landscapes in Africa gripped by severe drought and hunger crises, and infernos raging through Chile’s forests.

On May 11th, church communities worldwide are encouraged to participate in Disaster and Famine Relief Offering Sabbath, which will help ADRA continue to feed the hungry, provide clean drinking water, shelter, and medical assistance, as well as respond to the urgent needs of devastated communities in crisis.

On May 11th, communities worldwide are urged to participate in the Disaster and Famine Relief Offering Sabbath. This special Sabbath offers an opportunity for collective action, enabling ADRA to continue its vital mission of feeding the hungry, providing clean drinking water, shelter, medical assistance, and addressing the urgent needs of communities in crisis.

Churches can support ADRA's global humanitarian efforts by incorporating the following video and materials into their Sabbath programming:

▪ Offering Call template (pdf)
▪ PPT slide for DFRO Offering (ppt)
▪ Highlight ADRA’s Türkiye and Syria earthquake restoration efforts ▪ Showcase ADRA Emergency Response Video

Let us come together to extend compassion and aid to those in desperate need.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church created the Disaster and Famine Relief Offering Sabbath in the late 1950s to fund disaster relief. Today, the offering benefits ADRA's life-changing humanitarian projects for the world's

most vulnerable communities, as well as the work of Adventist Community Services (ACS) in the United States.

Take part in Disaster and Famine Relief Offering Sabbath to make a difference in the lives of children and

families across the world.
