Kettering College to Offer Master of Science in Nursing MSN Degree
Story by Courtney Dove
Kettering College has added a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) track to their offerings, with the first cohort starting in January 2024. The program prepares nurses for leadership roles in the rapidly changing healthcare environment.
The MSN degree at Kettering College, requires a minimum of 39 credit hours and 460 clinical hours. All MSN courses must be taken at Kettering College and is designed as a two-year program, including a total of six semesters. It is a cohort-based program with two entry points planned each year in fall (Aug – Dec) and winter (Jan - May). Core content in the curriculum includes leadership, health promotion, organizational behavior, human resources, financial management, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and mentoring.
Applicants meeting the minimum requirements and all other requirements for admission to Kettering College will be considered for admission. This program uses a rolling admission process to extend program offers. Minimum requirements for the MSN program include:
- A completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution with a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. Note: Kettering College policy and procedures dictate the use of one’s cumulative GPA when assigning admission points and determining eligibility.
- An active, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the state where they practice and where clinical practicum hours will be completed.
- Students recommended for admission must meet health and safety requirements by established deadlines, including satisfactory completion of a background check and any other requirements as a condition of admission.
Jennifer Shull, DNP, system chief nurse executive at Kettering Health, says, “We are pleased that Kettering College has expanded its offerings to include an MSN program for our Nursing colleagues. This training provides knowledge that broadens the nurse’s perspective and skill in caring for patients and leading and supporting teams. We require this training for our directors of Nursing because of the additional skill and competency it provides them to be more effective leaders. We are grateful for our partnership with Kettering College.”
