Ken Flemmer Honored With Gateway to Service Award

At the Washington Adventist University (WAU) 2023 Commencement Ceremony, Ken Flemmer, executive director of Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington (ACSGW), was honored with the Gateway to Service Award. 

For more than eight years, Flemmer has worked in this role at ACSGW–the charitable arm of several Seventh-day Adventist churches in Silver Spring, Md. With a hands-on approach, Flemmer has directed ACSGW in mitigating hunger in the community, responding to community disasters, offering skills training for the unemployed and underemployed, and organizing youth development summer camps.

Most recently, ACSGW has implemented an after-school tutoring program and provided culturally relevant food for Afghan families in the area. For many years, ACSGW has partnered with WAU in its pursuits to help struggling families.
