WGTS Listeners Sponsor Over 800 Children in Haiti

Story by Jerry Woods

WGTS 91.9 listeners recently sponsored 835 children through Compassion International. Each February, WGTS hosts a three-day event allowing listeners to help provide food, educational assistance, medical care, and spiritual care for children in developing countries. WGTS 91.9 listeners have stepped up for over a decade, sponsoring thousands of kids with Compassion.

This February, WGTS’ goal was to sponsor as many children as possible in Haiti. Haiti is the poorest country in the western world. Poverty increased in 2021 when the biggest natural disaster in 2021, a 7.2 earthquake in August 2021, struck Haiti. Listeners grasped the vision of making a difference in Haiti. Haiti accounted for most of the children sponsored, but many children from other Compassion countries were also supported.

“To play a small part in this amazing life-transformation process is humbling. We are so thankful to be able to bring this opportunity to our listeners,” says WGTS 91.9 president and CEO Kevin Krueger. “Child sponsorship changes both the life of the child and the sponsor – bringing them both closer to Christ – which is our mission. Thank you to all who think bigger picture, beyond their own needs, looking outward and finding a way to help others.”
