A second mass shooting in less than a year has directly impacted the Columbia Union Conference territory. Among the nine killed in a nightclub in downtown Dayton, Ohio, early Sunday morning was Nicholas Cumer, 25, a trainer interning with Maple Tree Cancer Alliance, an organization that serves patients in several of Kettering Adventist HealthCare’s (KAHC) facilities.
Earlier this year, the Allegheny West Conference Youth Ministries Department, sponsored in part by the Columbia Union Conference, partnered with the Young Adult Ministries Department on a once-in-a-lifetime mission trip to Cuba through ShareHim.
A panel comprised of teen and young adult members from the Parkwood church in Toledo, Ohio, recently participated in recording the premiere episode of Youth Uncut, a radio show that will soon start airing on AWC Radio—the Allegheny West Conference (AWC) streaming app.
“Since coming to the Adventist church, this has been an experience that I have never had before. It’s like going to see a world premiere,” Wilbur Davis says.
As of June 5, Kettering Adventist HealthCare (KAHC) facilities have treated at least 175 people with storm-related injuries, and one person has been confirmed dead. Water and power outages also impacted the area.
Leading up to the event, members participated in months of coordinated training, creation and nurturing of small groups in homes and churches that would eventually host the meetings.
The Allegheny West Conference (AWC) Education Department is pleased to announce that after months of hard work, the Ramah Junior Academy in Cleveland has successfully gone through the North American Division (NAD)/Columbia Union Conference Accreditation process, and has been awarded six years of accreditation, with a mid-term visit. Principal Celeste Giles, the teachers and supporting staff worked together to achieve this success.
