Benjamin Carson, a renowned retired pediatric neurosurgeon, was confirmed today as the secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Carson will be the first Seventh-day Adventist to hold a cabinet secretary position.

“Dr. Carson is a highly respected medical doctor. He and his family have been longtime members of the Chesapeake Conference’s Spencerville Adventist church,” says Walter Carson, Columbia Union Conference vice president and general counsel. “We wish him well as he takes on responsibilities that help or aid many people in the United States.”
