Eugene Simonov, director of video and creative marketing for WGTS 91.9 and 2016 graduate of Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Md., was awarded second place in the 37th College Television Awards, presented by the Television Academy Foundation. He won the Emmy, for Best TV Series – Unscripted. Simonov won as producer of the WGTS 91.9 video series, Words of Hope. The awards ceremony took place Wednesday, May 25, at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
“It was an incredible experience. I was happy to represent WGTS here!” says Simonov. The College Television Awards follows the tradition of the Emmy Awards, recognizing student innovation and achievement in storytelling. Out of roughly 600 submissions, only 37 received awards. Winners received cash awards and were flown to Los Angeles for the ceremony.
“We truly are grateful – Words of Hope was the only faith-based project in the competition. We are so proud of Eugene for living out his faith to Hollywood – to the world,” says WGTS 91.9 general manager Kevin Krueger.
