Ohio Conference

This fall, as Camp Mohaven celebrated 50 years of service to the Ohio Conference, more than 100 people from around the country returned for a weekend of fun, fellowship and reminiscing. Attendees included campers from Mohaven’s first year to counselors from this past summer.
 

Adventist Health Study-2 (AHS-2) researchers visited several camp meetings around the Columbia Union Conference. Many of 96,000 study members of AHS-2 are church members in the Columbia Union.

The plangent roar of dozens of motorcycles coming to life in unison breaks the quiet of a Mount Vernon, Ohio, Sabbath afternoon as dozens of bikers prepare to ride into the countryside. This is just one of the activities that bike enthusiasts recently enjoyed at Ohio Conference’s first “Rev It Up Biker Revival.” Held at Mount Vernon Academy, this camp meeting drew some 80 Christian bikers from as far West as California and as far south as Florida. 

Larry Beneke, a member of Ohio Conference’s Kettering church, has announced his retirement as chair of Kettering College’s Department of Radiologic Sciences and Imaging, a position he has held since 1996. His retirement becomes final in April as he finishes his 25th year at the school, and more than 36 years with Kettering Adventist HealthCare, the college’s governing organization.

The Ohio Conference recently welcomed Doug Falle as their new treasurer.

Airman 1st Class Kurt Schaefer, a long-time member of Ohio Conference’s Stillwater church in Vandalia, Ohio, is moving up the promotional ladder at the Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan.

Ohio Conference’s Kettering church recently held its first CHIP (Coronary Health Improvement Project) program. The 30-day healthy lifestyle course drew nearly 50 attendees and nurtured new friendships.
 

Ohio Conference’s Spring Valley Academy (SVA) located in Centerville, a suburb of Dayton, has received significant damage from a fire that appears to have originated in the school’s mechanical room, which doubles as the office of Steve Erickson, maintenance director. No one was injured.
