Sonset Friday Entertainment Pokes fun at Adventism

Interview by V. Michelle Bernard

Looking for some Christian comedy? Sonset Friday Entertainment produces a weekly video series that pokes some good-natured fun at the Seventh-day Adventist culture and reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.

A combination of God’s guiding, uneventful Friday evenings and a lack of quality Christian comedy from Adventist sources inspired Anthony Hackett to start the series, he says.

Hackett, who regularly attends Chesapeake Conference’s New Hope Church in Fulton, Md., published the first video in January and says that it received more than 20,000 hits so far.  All of the videos combined have received over 160,000 views.

Below, he shares more about the series and upcoming projects:

Q: What do you want to accomplish with the videos?
A: God has called me to use them as a way to entertain and present various faith-based messages. Hopefully people will share them and start conversations on the various messages.

Q: What impact have they made so far?
A: My prayer is that God has brought people to a closer relationship with Him through these videos. Based off of all the comments, phone calls and emails I’ve received, people are laughing and enjoying God and faith in a way that they haven't done before.

Q: What’s next in the video series and for you?
A: We are gearing up now for a brand new Web series. We are looking to premiere it in June. I can't give you too many details now, but I can say that it will be a combination of a drama and comedy (aka "dramadey"). We've been recently blessed by an investor with some professional production equipment, so the quality of our Web series will be taking a step forward.

Q: Are you looking for more actors/skit ideas, etc.?
A: I am always looking for more actors and skit ideas. But it doesn't stop there. We are also looking for people who want to get involved on any level. Camera, sound, lighting, musicians, editors, etc. Even investors, producers and people who just may want to donate to help fulfill our mission. People can reach us by emailing: sonsetfridayentertainment@gmail.com.

Q: What is your favorite video so far, and why?
A: I have two. "Seventh-day Adventist... 5 mins before sunset." This video was the very first video I did. God gave me an idea, and my wife and I filmed it with my cell phone and put it out there for the world to see. God blessed that effort and in its first weekend it had gained over 5,000 views. My other favorite video I will keep to myself because there is a recent video that is now rivaling it!
